1968 Porsche 911T
|
Specifications:
Engine: 2 Liter 6 Cylinder Transmission: 5 speed manual Extras: an older restored car in beautiful overall condition |
In August 1967, Porsche replaced the original O-series 911 with the A-series.
The Porsche 911T was a Europe only model for 1968, designed as a lower priced, lower performance entry point into the world of 911 ownership. It sat below both the 1968 911L and 1968 911S. The 911T featured engine Type 901/03, with Weber carburettors. It had 110 bhp @ 5800 rpm and top speed was 124 mph.
The 911T engine was a new design that used cast-iron cylinder heads. It also employed a different crankshaft, camshafts and compression ratios to produce 110 bhp. Unlike the other variants, the 911T had milder camshaft setup. The 911T also came with a four-speed gearbox instead of the five-speed unit fitted to the rest of the range.
The 911T did not get the high quality velour interior that came with the 911L and 911S. The car lacked the wooden dashboard and used cheaper Perlon carpeting. Standard features included the 4-Speed transmission and steel-disc wheels but there was the option to upgrade to a 5-Speed transmission and Fuchs alloy wheels.
A total of 2,132 911T’s were produced for the year, of which 1,611 were coupes and 521 were Targas. As with the other 911 variants, 1968 is noteworthy as the final year of the short wheelbase 911.
The 911T we have for sale is a Blood Orange Left Hand Drive Coupe that was delivered new on the 31st of October 1967 in Dortmund Germany. It is not known when it came to South Africa but there are records from the 1990's and the car is correctly registered in SA. The present owner acquired the car in 2007 and began a restoration in 2010. The restoration is documented with invoices, photos and a spreadsheet of costs. The car was beautifully restored by the best in the business, Tim Abbot and presents beautifully. It has the correct interior, paint codes, and Fuchs wheels. The wooden steering wheel finishes off the interior beautifully. The houndstooth seat covers are period correct and look great. Even though it was restored over 15 years ago, the paint, chrome and glass are all in excellent condition and the car drives exceptionally well. The car is well known by Tim Abbot and he is available to give a technical report on the car if needed.
This is lovely example of a classic 911 that is ready to go
